My sitemap index is showing "Success" in Google Search Console, but the child sitemaps display "Couldn't Fetch" or "Sitemap could not be read."

I have already checked that:

All sitemap URLs are accessible.
Every sitemap returns HTTP 200.
The XML is valid.
The robots.txt file is configured correctly.
There are no manual actions.

Even after verifying everything, Google Search Console still isn't reading the child sitemaps correctly.

Why does this happen, and what should I check to fix it?
