Preparing the tool…

How this tool works

Parses one question and answer per line in `question | answer` format and serializes them as FAQPage JSON-LD.

How to use it

  1. Enter each real question and answer on its own line.
  2. Check that the same content appears visibly on the page.
  3. Validate the structured data and review current Google eligibility.

Limits to keep in mind

FAQ rich-result display is restricted for most sites in Google Search. Markup must represent visible content; it does not guarantee a search enhancement.

Frequently asked questions

Can every website get FAQ rich results?

No. Google limits FAQ rich results to well-known authoritative government and health websites.

Should I add fake FAQs just for markup?

No. Structured data must accurately represent visible page content.

Do the questions have to be visible on the page?

Yes. Markup must reflect content users can actually see. Hidden or mismatched questions go against structured data guidelines.

Is FAQ markup still worth adding?

The rich result is limited for most sites, so do not add it expecting a visual change. Clear visible FAQs still help readers, and consistent markup is harmless when it matches the page.

What FAQ structured data is

FAQ structured data is JSON-LD that labels a list of questions and their answers on a web page. It uses the FAQPage type from schema.org, with each question marked as a Question and each answer as an Answer. It tells software that a block of your page is a set of frequently asked questions with specific answers.

The FAQ Structured Data Generator reads one question and answer per line, written in the form question | answer, and serializes them as FAQPage JSON-LD. It outputs a block of code for you to copy. It does not read your page, write the questions, or check that they appear on the page. The value of the output depends on the quality of the questions and answers you enter.

Write questions people actually ask

Good FAQ content starts with real reader questions, not keywords. Collect them from customer emails, support tickets, comments, sales calls, search suggestions and the People Also Ask feature. Write each question the way a person would say it, and answer it directly in the first sentence, followed by a short explanation if needed.

Keep answers clear and honest. A useful FAQ resolves doubts that stop people from choosing, buying or understanding something, such as pricing rules, delivery times, how a process works or what is not included. Avoid questions that exist only to repeat a keyword, and avoid answers that are mostly promotion. Two or three strong questions are worth more than ten generic ones.

Keep the visible page and JSON-LD aligned

Structured data must describe content that users can see on the page. Every question and answer in your JSON-LD should also be visible in the page text, in the same words or a very close version. Do not mark up hidden content, content behind tabs that users cannot reach, or questions that appear only in the code.

The format of this generator is simple, but it also means you control the match. Write your FAQ for the page first, then paste each question and answer into the tool, so the two are identical. If you later edit the visible FAQ, update the markup to match. Mismatches between markup and page are a common reason structured data is treated as low quality.

Understand availability and limits

Since 2023, Google has limited FAQ rich results to well-known, authoritative government and health websites. For most sites, adding FAQ markup will not produce an expanded result in Google Search. This does not make FAQ content useless. A clear FAQ section helps readers, can answer follow-up questions that would otherwise lead to a support request, and can improve the usefulness of a page.

Other systems may still read FAQ markup, and consistent structured data does no harm when it matches the page. But do not add it expecting a visual change in results, and do not treat it as a ranking signal. Check Google's current documentation for FAQ eligibility, since search features change from time to time.

Follow content rules

Google's guidelines for FAQ markup say it is for pages where the site owner provides the questions and a single answer to each one. If users can submit answers, such as on a forum, a different type applies. Each question should appear once on the page. Do not use the markup for advertising, and do not fill answers with promotional links.

Answers may include basic HTML formatting such as paragraphs, lists and links, but keep them readable and relevant. Avoid duplicating the same FAQ across many pages of your site. If many pages carry identical questions and answers, the markup adds little value, and the pages can look repetitive. Write FAQs that fit each page's topic.

How to use the generator

Type each question and answer on its own line, separated by a vertical bar. For example, enter the question, then a space, the bar, a space, and the answer. Keep the answer on the same line, and use plain text. Do not add the bar character inside a question or an answer, because it is used as the separator.

Review the generated JSON-LD, and copy it into the page that holds the same FAQ, either in the head or the body. If your CMS or SEO plugin already creates FAQ markup from a block or widget, use that instead, to avoid duplicates. Then publish the page and confirm that the visible FAQ and the code are identical.

Validate after publishing

Test the page with the Rich Results Test and the Schema Markup Validator to confirm the code has no syntax errors and that the questions and answers are read correctly. Even if Google does not display FAQ results for your site, a valid markup is still preferable to broken code.

Remember the limits of this tool. It does not check eligibility, confirm that the content is on the page, or predict how any search engine will use the markup. Keep the FAQ section up to date, remove questions that no longer apply, and review it when your products, prices or policies change. Honest, current answers are what make an FAQ worth publishing.
